About me

I am an Artist, a Digital Artist and long time photographer and that is my ambition to be successful as an Artist. I call myself an "Illusionist" because it's the illusions I create from the photographs I take to inspire the imagination. Art requires communication from the Art and to the Art by the viewer and if I can achieve that then I feel I have achieved a lot.
I have done many things in my life, which includes 26 years working in IT, running a taxi business, running a buildiing and renovations business... plus a one time tennis coach, fight director, teacher... to name but a few... I suppose I was searching for something that I really wanted to do and now I have found it in my Art.
Apart from that I am very lucky to have three wonderful children and a close and supportive family around me, plus lots of really great friends!!! I mean what more can one ask for...
Well I could ask for just one more thing but so far the fairy tale hasn't come true for me...

Interests

I am a Scientologist and have been since 1975, the works of L. Ron Hubbard have inspired me and helped me in my life and to help others all of those years. I believe that because of what I have learned I have achieved more than I otherwise would and had a happier family too as a result.
I am also interested in Art, Music, Politics, Religions, Travelling and life in general... and living it!

Favourite Music

It's difficult to pin this one down... The Who are my all time favourite band but I like loads of different stuff... I just never remember what any of it is called and maybe that's a sign of age!! LOL!

David Bailey’s Very Long Bio

David Evans Bailey was born in Blantye, Malawi in 1957, he was given his first camera at the age of 6 years old. He lived and absorbed the culture of Africa from that early age until 11 years old. He was lucky enough to have eclectic parents who mixed in all races and cultures and took their family to such places as the reserves in Zambia and South Africa, and he spent many happy days by the lakeshore of Lake Malawi. His father also had a short spell in Addis Ababa as it was then. In 1968 he returned to England with his parents for good.

Having pestered his father for months a really good camera and a darkroom he finally succeeded and has been what he calls a proper photographer since the age of 11.

At the age of 16 years old during the marital breakup of his parents he spent some time with his sister in the Gambia and worked on the game reserve there, and also taking photographs of the Chimpanzees and other animals.

He has since worked in a professional capacity in many spheres which include portraiture, reportage and landscapes. He studied art at School and afterwards and his influences include the Impressionists, Picasso and other modern art movements.

David has also taught photography to all age groups to examination standard and some of his students went on to pursue their own careers in the medium. Throughout his varied career which includes Fight Director, Stage Management and Musician he has always continued his passion for photography.

In the last year he has finally fulfilled his ambition to take his photography to a new and different level, these images are part of that journey which has not yet ended.

David has recently made the progression in his view from Photographer to Digital Artist.

This progression into the world of Digital Art has just begun and through his work you can see an evolution in terms of use of imagery and colour. He likes to saturate and bring out the luminosity of the colours, and the brightness which again harks back to his African origins.

For a long time I wanted to take my photography to a new level of creation. A new reality beyond the vision and reality of the photograph. A world in which the viewer can participate and find something for themselves.

The images I like best are those which interpose ordinary and make them extraordinary. The things which make the viewer ask why? And thus participate in the formation of the artwork. No art is really finished until it has communicated with the person who views it. Until then it is just a potentiality.

This creative journey for me has just begun after a lifetime of real photography. The digital medium has given me the freedom of an artist to experiment and make my own statement upon my images of the world around me.

I hope that you, the viewer, will enjoy viewing these as much as I enjoyed the creation of the illusion for you to view.
