Companies affiliated with child labour at Saint Hill Manor? @thinkTankPhoto denies involvement

logoThinkTankPhoto

  • They hold events appear to be affiliated with events at Saint Hill Manor, East Grinstead (Heather Angel Workshops)

Context: Saint Hill Manor & Child Labour

  • Simon Pollock denies they are affiliated with this workshop [see below]
  • They are not only outright sponsoring the Scientology enterprise, they are reaping the profits from forcing minors to undergo unpaid labour. [this is disputed - see below]

Do the right thing, guys • Apologise (if you weren’t aware of what you were doing)
Ignorance is no defence, especially from this point onwards.

PROTIP
  • This isn’t about beliefs. It’s about a huge corporation abusing children, for profit.

We know that Carter-Ruck have been approached to intimidate us.
  • We aren’t going away.
  • So, Gray Levett, Nikon or whoever it was, stop trying to stifle us. Make things right.

Internationally Acclaimed Wildlife Photographer Heather Angel Demonstrates How to Photograph by Grays Of Westminster

Update:

ThinkTANK, have responded. Not someone in England, but the guy in Oz called Simon Pollock. (He isn’t a Thinktank employee)

Is it that Grays guy that is involved with Scientology? I've confirmed that it's not out distributor in the UK or thinkTank in the US that are anything to do with this woman's workshops.

I have confirmed that we didn't sponsor the workshop and that perhaps our UK distributor / retailer provided stock for the workshop - beyond our control.

We're not involved, never have been, you are effectively slandering a company.

Conclusion:
  • We’ve looked through photos and can’t see any actual Thinktank staff at events.
  • Assume good faith, give them the benefit of the doubt. Actually, it’s far more likely that Grays are misleading people/lying.
  • Thinktank not culpable in the way that Nikon are.

Launch of the Nikon Owner South-East Group, Sunday, August 14th

nikon owner mangazine

You are warmly invited to the very first meeting of the new Nikon Owner South-East Group, which has been kindly organised by long-standing Nikon user and Nikon Owner subscriber Paul Stillman. This initial meeting will take place on Sunday, August 14th, at the Bluebell Railway, Sheffield Park, East Sussex.

bluebells railway

The Bluebell Railway is holding a Vintage Transport Weekend offering opportunities to photograph not only their magnificent engines and rolling stock, but also a fine display of historic, classic and vintage cars, motorcycles, stationary engines, steam road engines, commercial vans and farm tractors, all attended by the enthusiasts who restore and maintain them.

Parking can be found at Sheffield Park Station, from where trains depart on the hour between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to take everyone to Horsted Keynes Station, where the display can be found in a field a few yards away. There will even be a barbeque and a real ale tent to sustain us whilst changing memory cards!

Sheffield Park Station (TN22 3QL)

Sheffield Park Station is the best point to join the Bluebell Railway. This is situated on the A275 East Grinstead – Lewes main road, about two miles north of its junction with the A272. The Bluebell Railway, Sheffield Park is well signposted with brown tourist direction signs from the A22 and A23 trunk roads. There is plenty of available parking at Sheffield Park as well as a Coach Park and Disabled Bays.

You may remember the Railway’s 50th Anniversary Appeal was featured by the actor David Suchet OBE in an issue of Nikon Owner in 2009 (issue #30), so as well as an excellent day out we will be helping a very worthy cause. If you would like to attend, please let me know by posting a response on the message board. This event is also suitable for family and friends, so do feel free to arrive and depart whenever you like and bring your family members. Prices are on the Bluebell Railway website, www.bluebell-railway.com and bookings can be made in advance by phoning 01825 720800. Single admission is £15 booked before 31st July, £17 after that. A family ticket is £45 to £51.

Please support the launch of the South-East Nikon Owner group. It is a wonderful way for our subscribers to meet, exchange ideas and share photographic interests, and anyone can attend, no matter which part of the UK you come from!

About the Bluebell Railway

The Bluebell Railway is a heritage line running for nine miles along the border between East and West Sussex. Steam trains are operated between Sheffield Park and Kingscote, with an intermediate station at Horsted Keynes.

Historically, an Act of Parliament in 1877 authorised the construction of the Lewes and East Grinstead Railway of which the current Bluebell Railway is part. The original line was sponsored by local landowners, including the Earl of Sheffield, and was in general use for the public as a railway until February 1955 when it was closed.

The railway is now managed and run largely by volunteers. It has the largest collection of steam locomotives in the UK after the National Railway Museum.

Gray Levett - spreading The Way to Happiness Across Europe [according to $cientology PR]

gray levett planetary disemenation

[source]

Gray Levett is an extremely successful businessman, world-renowned photographer, Fellow of the Institute of Directors and editor of an internationally famous photography magazine. You will find him in the Who's Who of Britain's Business Elite 2011 (which makes it his third year in a row).
He also happens to be an honorary member of the Explorers Club! And he is a long-term and dedicated Scientologist.
Gray was a major supporter in our international campaign to bring fire Way to Happiness to libraries and here is what he had to say:

“When I was briefed on the Planetary Dissemination programs and how everything was planned and laid out-at the Correct Orders of Magnitude—I realized that we should do whatever we could to help this. The task can appear daunting when you do not have the plans and strategies in place; when you do, you are confident that your support will be utilized to the utmost. I invite everyone to find out what Planetary Dissemination programs truly are—I have to admit that at first I did not have an understanding of them. I also can tell you that your support of Planetary Dissemination will be rewarded across your dynamics—it is such a vital thing to sponsor."
— Gray Levett

What it doesn't mention:
  • his business has benefited tremendously from free, illegal child labour at Saint Hill Manor, for at least 11 summers.
  • I think anyone can be a fellow at the IoD, it costs like £300/year
  • The 'world famous magazine' is Nikon Owner Magazine. World-famous, my arse!

Scientology Nikon Event at Saint Hill Manor cancelled, after our coverage

Repair work scuppers photographer’s annual wildlife event

amatuer photographer logo

Heather angel with big ass camera

Organisers of the annual Heather Angel Wildlife and Natural History Workshop have been forced to cancel the event owing to overrunning 'renovation' work. Now in its 14th year, the event was due to take place at Saint Hill Manor in West Sussex on 23 July. Aimed at amateurs and experienced photographers alike it was due to include lectures, plus the chance to handle the latest Nikon camera gear. A spokesman for the event, which is organised by Nikon dealer Grays of Westminster, told Amateur Photographer that the venue 'isn't going to be ready on time', after scheduled renovation work at Saint Hill Manor overran. Grays of Westminster co-founder Gray Levett said he has not been able to find a suitable alternative venue, but he hopes to organise a smaller workshop in London later this year for people who had planned to attend. He said that those who have already paid for tickets will receive a refund. Saint Hill Manor is an 18th century sandstone building, surrounded by 59 acres of landscape gardens on the outskirts of East Grinstead.

She will show comparative shots taken with available light and after modifying it to enhance the subject, which will be relevant to the afternoon session. Heather will also show how enhanced depth of field is possible with 3-D macro shots by using focus stacking. Multiple exposure digital images created in-camera are possible to achieve on only some Nikon cameras; however, it is also possible to produce multi-exposure images from any camera by shooting individual shots and combining them using a software program.

Copies of Heather's books will be available this weekend.

11.15 Break for mid-morning refreshment: tea, coffee, mineral water on the Terrace.

11.45 - 12.45 Nikon Total Imaging System - John Clements

As our example images are shot, they will appear on screen. John will then talk through as he fine-tunes and improves upon them in camera. Each vital camera feature - from focusing and exposure with many other considerations - will be detailed and exact settings explained during the shoot.

Gray Levett - Founder of Nikon-only dealer Grays of Westminster + Editor of Nikon Owner magazine

gray levett
Gray's-of-Wesminster is considered a Jewel Of A PR tool [for $cientology]

Thanks to the aggressive PR methods by Gray Levett & co, big photography weekends were often held at Saint Hill, with real celebrity photographers running workshops, these events bring a positive image of the cult to an important PR target group: wealthy Brits with serious connections into politics, finance, arts and education.

These [workshops] were very professionally run and sponsored ostensibly by Gray's and Nikon.

Gray Levett is Back From The Front - Amateur Photographer - news

Gray Levett is Back From The Front
Monday 25th June 2007
Gray Levett

I often reflect upon the odd things that shape one's life without one really knowing it. My interest in photography was ignited after I saw Michelangelo Antonioni's movie Blow-Up, in which David Hemmings plays Thomas, a successful, yet bored, English fashion photographer. The film has been described as a baffling, beautiful critique of the 'swinging London' of the 1960s. I have held Blow-Up in some affection since that time.

In my teens, my interests were broadly divided into music, photography, reading and film. I read voraciously and carried a camera wherever I went. In those bygone days I walked almost everywhere, often covering seven to ten miles per day. Walking enables you see things others speeding past in their cars do not. I took roll after roll of film, shooting rock bands in London's sweaty clubs, and then I would escape into the forests. I enjoyed myself immensely but had little idea what the future held except that somehow photography and music would, I hoped, become a part of it.

Blow-Up was released during an extraordinary period of cultural change. The music of the mid-1960s was new and exciting. One band, The Soul Agents, became local heroes, especially after introducing a new singer named Rod Stewart. Rod, himself, snuck my cousin and me into gigs in our hometown under the improbable assertion that we were roadies. I was determined to capture this atmosphere on film and reasoned that perhaps the equipment I desired might be more affordable if I worked in a camera shop.

My first job in the photographic world was at Hartle Photographic, a camera shop in Bournemouth. The proprietor was not only knowledgeable of cameras and photography but possessed an old-fashioned psyche that pursued with absolute conviction the concept of pre-Second World War methods of dealing with customers. He worked like a drill sergeant and put his staff through a similar regime, involving us in daily cleaning, dusting and presentation. He also demanded we show customers impeccable manners and unflappable professionalism at all times.

The hardest part of this apprenticeship was the daily quiz. He would walk up unannounced and say something like 'Focal plane shutter – definition?' If you lagged with your answer it was off to the nearest photographic dictionary, and you would go back and forth between study and reciting the answer until you had it right. This went on for nearly a year, and for the rebel in me it was a hard bullet to bite. Then about a year later, something unexpected happened.

I moved to London and went for an interview at a photographic store in W1. I was questioned intensively and my responses were immediate, confident and without hesitation. All my studying of photographic nomenclature and learning how to provide a professional service suddenly clicked. I realised that my much-cursed boss had given me a precious gift. He made me competent in a subject I had little prior knowledge in, and I was prepared to deal with nearly any query. Most importantly, he taught me that a full knowledge of one's trade and complete professionalism are tools that can open doors. The one thing I have noticed over the years is that the most successful shops have training programmes on these key elements as a matter of importance.

For the record my old boss's name was Mr. Hartle. He had a first name but I would never have dreamed of using it, and even today I cannot bring myself to call him by his first name. Somehow it would not be right. It might break just the spell.

'About Me'
gray levett
My name is Gray Levett. I was born in England in 1948.
I now live in London running a photographic company. I spend a large part of my life with artists and photographers or those who desire to create using a camera.
Prior to this I was in the music business and traveled extensively.
I now combine a love of music and photography in my work and leisure

'My Success'
I had, for many years, been searching for the answers to hundreds of questions about life. The answers were not to be found at my school, or indeed after I left school in my other areas or subjects I encountered.

It is true to say that all the things I tried were well-meaning but none were definite or applicable to life.

Scientology, however, was and is very different. It is so very applicable to dealing with the ups and downs of life.

When one is overshadowed by doubts and worries, losses or grief, etc, Scientology has the tool to take you upwards.

From the very early studies, I completely dealt with the subject of study. This proved very useful because I now felt able to study and apply whatever I studied.

I find now that all of life is open to me.

I have never looked back.

I have a happy marriage, good friends and a successful business.

Scientology was the tool I used and it works so very, very effectively.

Grays of Westminster, and Nikon, profit from inhumane treatment of children & illegal child labour at Saint Hill Manor. [2011 EVENT CANCELLED!]

Update: it appears that Gray Levett has cancelled the July 2011 event, after our coverage. [WWP thread]

From The story of Vivien Krogmann-Lutz:

Hereby I ask Nikon UK Ltd, Kodak US Sponsorships (contact sheet choose OTHER - Corporate information > Sponsorships) and the Nikon Owners Club International (email), if they condone the inhuman treatment of children. And if not whether they plan on any longer supporting the Scientology UK base 'Saint Hill Manor' and its child labor. Gray Levett, co-founder of Grays of Westminster, is a self confessed scientologist and can use that as excuse but I had expected higher standards from Nikon and Kodak.

Aggressive PR; Successful Targeting Of Highly Influential People

It is worth mentioning that in all my time in UK Sea Org, Gray's was considered a jewel of a PR tool for the cult. Thanks to the aggressive PR methods by Gray Levett and co, big 'photography weekends were often held at Saint Hill, with real celebrity photographers running workshops, these events brought a positive image of the cult to an important PR target group, wealthy Brits with serious connections into politics, finance, arts and education. These were very professionally run and sponsored ostensibly by Gray's and Nikon. I am fairly certain that this stuff continues to this day.

Gray Levett, writing as "NEW CIVILIZATION SENIOR AMBASSADOR" asks fellow Scientologists to dig deep

The email below is not intended for public consumption; it is a leaked memo sent only to Scientologists. [source]

SCIENTOLOGY IDEAL CELEBRITY CENTRES

Today I was asked by the Executive Director of CC London why I had decided to become a Premier Benefactor of the Arts. It is a good question, because for me it was the only thing to do.

I lived and worked in Hollywood for a number of years and Celebrity Centre International was my local organization. My work in Hollywood was always involved in some way with the arts; I moved between the movie world, music, writing and photography. CC looked after me, CC cared about me and CC was always there whenever I needed it. CC was always there as a safe, sane and kind oasis from some of the less attractive denizens of the entertainment world.

When I moved back to London in the mid 1980s, I ran the PR department of an indie record label and managed the careers of some rock and roll musicians. When I heard that a CC London was being started by some pioneering souls, I was both interested and intrigued. Later, when I founded my own photographic company, CC London had become a reality and I started on course there. The space wasn’t very large and there were lots of stairs to negotiate. Then it moved to larger premises, once again with many flights of stairs. More recently it has moved to its temporary home in New Cavendish Street which is all on the ground floor, with no stairs to climb.

During all those years a number of very dedicated souls have been spending hours and hours scouring London looking for that all important building, that place which could house the Ideal Org that LRH, the most abundantly creative genius in the world, so eloquently describes.

“The ideal org is the image one builds toward. It is the product of the causative actions of many. Anything which is short of an ideal org is an outpoint that can be put right. The end product is not just an ideal org but a new civilization already on its way.”

L. RON HUBBARD

Whenever we could, my wife Gillian and I would make a flow to the dream of a CC London Ideal Org and little by little the amounts we invested grew until we arrived at our current ‘Premier Benefactor of the Arts’ status. I use the word invested rather than donated because for me it is without doubt an investment, an investment that offers returns which are not available in any other area of life.

I continue to work with some of the world's greatest photographers, writers, actors and musicians. I consider it a privilege to call Celebrity Centre London my home; it is part of the adventure of my lifetime and there are few better places in the world in which to embark on such an adventure than here, where art and artists are free to inspire the world.

We have located a new building, a perfect building, a building that inspires and breathes life, a building that has been ticking away during many decades waiting patiently for us to arrive and fill it and allow it to be the vessel that will house LRH’s dream. Like nearly all the buildings it has stairs but what stairs! They are stairs that will take you, your friends and loved ones to freedom and create in London the most monumental effects that will be felt all over the world.

Please join us in
contributing to securing the Ideal Celebrity Centre London building.
